i'm reading Strong and Kind, the latest book from Duck Dynasty's Korie Robertson, and this is the question she poses on page 1.
chapter by chapter, Korie, along with her husband, Willie Robertson, her mom, Chrys Howard, and biblical inspiration, explores different character traits children need to succeed. strong, kind, honest, patient, joyful... what is important to us as parents? what principals guide me in my parenting? what character traits do i think are most valuable? and then, how do i instill character traits in my children?
here is what i love about this book: Korie and Willie are not afraid or ashamed to parent against the grain, keeping God at the center of their homes and their lives. Korie also boldly points out that our values in America are being challenged, as is the structure of the parent-child relationship. more and more, children are running the show so to speak, and parents are backing down, too afraid to "rock the boat" to be firm in instilling values and virtues. Korie challenges parents to take responsibility for our children and our family's value systems.
