what happens when you hand a toddler a cup with a straw? they put the straw in their mouth, tip the cup up to drink, and the drink spills all over the place. am i right?
one simple phrase has saved us from the otherwise inevitable tip spill in these instances:
"hold it by your tummy."
we say it as we hand the toddler the cup, we say it as he's drinking, and we remind him when we think he might have forgotten.
when he holds the cup by his tummy, the straw reaches his mouth perfectly and he can get a good drink without tipping the cup or spilling.
"hold it by your tummy" works for us!
