Ten on Tuesday: Making the Most of It

on Mother's Day i saw a video "tribute" to Moms, about how much we do in a day without anyone having to remind us or ask. "Moms have a ton of responsibilities on a daily basis that often go unnoticed." yes that is true. the message was "isn't Mom great for doing these things so selflessly for her family?" and yes that is true, too. but as the video played and mentioned the chores- the laundry, the carpooling, the cooking, the shopping- i was struck with how every day and mindless these chores can become. it's routine. we're wired to get up and make the oatmeal. we're in the habit of making the grocery list and clipping the coupons. we go through the motions because we're expected to. we do them without thinking. we do them without love. sometimes?

do we? do i?

"Let everything you do be done in love."
-1 Corinthians 16:14

since, i've been consciously making an effort to handle my responsibilities on purpose. i'm talking about the every day things that you know you're going to have to do. i'm talking about doing them on purpose, thoughtfully, and with a happy heart. how much better does a peanut butter and jelly sandwich taste when it's made with love? when i cut the crusts off carefully instead of ripping them off to get it to the table faster? how much better do i feel about wiping fingerprints off of the glass door when i really take a moment to think about how they got there in the first place? don't just throw the clothes in the washer without thinking for a second, i love that my family trusts me to do this. just try doing things with a dash of love. we do have a lot of jobs. let's make the most of it!
